Decoration Description
A continuous figural frieze decorates the outside of the pyxis. A woman seated profile to the right on a klismos, wearing a himation over a medium-sleeved chiton, and a taenia, holds a spindle in her left hand, reaches to her neck with her left hand, and turns her head to a frontal view, as if in surprise. A similarly dressed woman stands 3/4-view to the left, holding a hand loom in her lowered right hand. Another woman, wearing a chiton with a long overfold, and a broad taenia, stands profile to the right and holds an alabastron in her outstretched right hand. On the other side of a footed box stands a woman draped in a himation and wearing a sakkos on her head, profile to the left. A bird stands profile to the right. A woman, seated profile to the right, wears a himation over a sleeveless chiton, and a sphendone in her hair. A lekythos hangs (on the wall) above her. A woman standing in a frontal pose, with her head profile to the left, wears a sleevless chiton and a kekryphylon, and folds a sheet (?). Another woman, standing profile to the left, wearing a peplos and a taenia, holds a footed box. An attenuated Doric column precedes the door to the house; the opened right half of the door reveals, within, a bed piled high with pillows.
