Decoration Description
Body: Hera and Nike. Between meander friezes which frame the panel above and below, the two goddesses interact. Nike stands on the right, her body facing front, her head in profile turned to the left. She faces Hera who stands on the left. With her hair drawn up in a sakkos or snood, Nike wears a long, Ionic style chiton with a dot pattern at the bottom and loose, transparent elbow sleeves which cover a generous breast. Over her left shoulder is draped a himation with a decorative stripe on the selvage at the gathered overfold; behind her left shoulder rise her wings. With her right hand extended towards Hera, she prepares to pour out a libation from a small oinochoe. In her left hand she holds a kerykeion. She wears earrings and, on each wrist, bangle bracelets. Her left foot points to the left, while her right is frontal. To the left Hera stands in profile, ready to receive the libation. She is dressed in a long, transparent Ionic style chiton with elbow sleeves and a dot pattern at the bottom; a himation is draped over her right arm and shoulder, leaving her left arm exposed. In her extended right hand she holds a phiale out to receive Nike's libation. Her left hand holds her striped scepter of authority, the finial of which is obscured by the oinochoe. On her head she wears earrings and a diadem which binds her hair; on her arms bangle bracelets. Both her breasts and her feet are in profile, facing Nike. Both himations end in teardrop terminations.
An egg-and-dot border marks the junction between neck and shoulder. On the shoulder is an elaborate palmette and bud pattern.
