Decoration Description
Herakles, clad in lion's skin and short chiton and armed with sword, bow and quiver, rushes from left to center. He pursues Nereus, the old man of the sea, catching hold of his right wrist with his own right hand and reaching for his shoulder with his left. The old man of the sea, identified by his flowing white hair and beard, holds a fish as an attribute in his left hand. Though he walks to the right, he turns round to face his pursuer as Herakles grasps his wrist. Nereus wears a wreath in added red, a long, sleeved chiton and a himation draped across his left shoulder. His bowed head and quiet resistance yield to the force of Herakles' youthful action.
The design only occurs on the body, without borders, except for a frieze band under the figures where two meanders alternate with a dotted checker square. Around the neck there is a tongue pattern. Around the outer curve of the foot is a reserved band.
